Check valves and strainers to secure suction and delivery

A check valve lets fluid pass in one direction only and stops it flowing back, which protects the pump and prevents loss of prime. A strainer retains solids at the entry of a suction line. A foot valve combines both functions at the bottom of a suction pipe.

Which valve for which use

  • Ball check valve: suited to loaded water and lift stations.
  • Swing check valve: in brass, with a metal or elastomer seat depending on the fluid.
  • Foot valve with strainer: to be placed at the bottom of the well or reserve.

Frequently asked questions: Check valves and strainers

Where should the check valve be installed?

Generally on the delivery side, close to the pump, to avoid backflow. Follow the direction marked on the valve body and leave access for cleaning.

What is the strainer on a foot valve for?

It filters debris before the suction to protect the pump and the valve. Check and clean it regularly, especially in loaded water.

Why choose a ball check valve for lifting?

Its wide passage is less sensitive to suspended matter than other models. The product page gives the diameter and connection type (threaded or solvent-weld).
