Hygienic nut fittings for food-grade piping

The SMS fitting is a hygienic nut-type coupling used in circuits for food, beverages or dairy products. It is assembled with a gasket and can be taken apart without complicated tools, which makes cleaning easier. The range includes weld-on parts, nuts and several gaskets.

Choosing the right parts

  • Material: 316L or 304 stainless steel depending on the product handled.
  • Gasket: EPDM, silicone or PTFE, depending on the fluid and temperature.
  • Compatibility: an SMS fitting cannot be mated with a fitting of another standard (DIN, Macon).

Frequently asked questions: SMS fittings

Which gasket should I choose for an SMS fitting?

It depends on the product handled, its temperature and the cleaning products used. EPDM, silicone and PTFE do not behave in the same way: see the product page.

Can an SMS fitting be connected to a DIN or Macon one?

No, these systems have different threads and profiles. Stay within the same system, or use an adapter designed for that purpose.

Should the gasket be replaced at every disassembly?

Check it each time: a gasket that is deformed, hardened or damaged must be replaced to keep the circuit tight and hygienic.
