Pressure reducers and safety relief valves

The pressure reducer lowers and stabilises the pressure downstream of a network when it is too high for the appliances. The safety relief valve opens when pressure exceeds its threshold, to protect the installation. The two are complementary.

Selection criteria

  • Connection: threaded or flanged, depending on diameter.
  • Material: brass or 316 stainless steel depending on the fluid; ACS version for domestic hot water.
  • Setting and nominal pressure: to be checked on the product page.

Frequently asked questions: Pressure reducers and relief valves

What is the difference between a reducer and a relief valve?

The reducer regulates pressure continuously; the valve acts only in case of overpressure, as a safety device. It does not replace the reducer.

What is the piped outlet for?

It lets you direct the discharge of the valve to a safe place through a pipe, rather than letting it escape freely.

Can I change the setting of a relief valve myself?

A relief valve is a safety device: its setting and installation must follow the manufacturer's instructions and the regulations. Call in a professional.
