What is an engine-driven pump used for?

An engine-driven pump is driven by a combustion engine, with no electrical connection. It is used for watering, draining, dewatering excavations, water transfer and fire fighting, wherever there is no mains electricity.

How to choose an engine-driven pump

  • Engine: petrol for occasional use, diesel for intensive use.
  • Flow rate and head, according to the use.
  • Coupling diameter, identical to your hoses.
  • Type of water: clear or loaded.

Petrol or diesel engine-driven pump: which one?

The petrol pump is light, easy to start and suited to occasional use. The diesel pump is sturdier and copes better with long running times: building sites, irrigation, intensive use.

How do I choose the flow rate and the coupling diameter?

Choose the flow in m³/h according to the use (watering, emptying, dewatering, transfer) and the height to climb. The coupling diameter (for example 2 inches or 3 inches) must match your hoses: a hose that is too narrow limits the pump flow.

Can an engine-driven pump handle loaded water?

A clear-water pump is not made for sand or mud, which wear it quickly. For loaded water (building site, ditch, excavation), choose a model designed for loaded water, whose data sheet states the particles it accepts.

How do I prime and maintain an engine-driven pump?

Before the first start, fill the pump body with water, then fit the suction hose with a strainer and a foot valve. Check the engine oil level, the air filter and the freshness of the fuel regularly, and rinse the pump after pumping loaded water.
