Limiting limescale deposits without a water softener

An anti-scale treatment aims to reduce limescale deposits in pipes, water heaters, boilers and appliances. It does not replace a softener: the water keeps its hardness, but the limescale settles differently.

Three technologies, three uses

  • Polyphosphate filter: a product refill is gradually used up and must be renewed.
  • Magnetic anti-scale device: fitted on the pipe, with no routine maintenance.
  • Electric anti-scale device: a powered unit, with wear parts such as the anode.

Frequently asked questions: Anti-scale systems

Does an anti-scale device replace a water softener?

No. A softener removes part of the hardness of the water using a resin. An anti-scale device acts on how deposits form without changing the measured hardness. The right choice depends on your use and your water.

How do I choose the right model?

Consider the pipe diameter, the flow of the installation and the equipment to protect (water heater, boiler, whole network). The product page gives the flow and installation conditions.

What maintenance should I plan?

A polyphosphate filter needs its charge renewed regularly. Electric units may need the anode or the flow switch replaced. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
