A softener for less scaly water

A water softener uses an ion-exchange resin that retains part of the calcium and magnesium responsible for hardness. The resin is regenerated regularly with salt tablets, which is why you need to keep a supply.

Sizing and maintaining it properly

  • Water hardness: measure it with a hardness (TH) test before choosing.
  • Resin volume: to match the number of people and the consumption.
  • Salt and resin: add salt regularly and disinfect the resin as per the instructions.

Frequently asked questions: Water softeners

How do I find out the hardness of my water?

A TH test kit gives the hardness in a few moments. You can also ask your water supplier. This value is used to set up the unit.

Which softener should I choose?

The choice depends on the resin volume, the flow needed and the valve type (for example volumetric). Compare these with the size of the household and the water hardness, using the product page.

What maintenance does a softener need?

Check the salt level regularly and use suitable salt. A resin disinfectant can be used from time to time, following the manufacturer's instructions.
