A generator converts the energy of a combustion engine (petrol or diesel) into electricity. It serves as the main source on a worksite or remote site, or as a backup during a mains power cut. How to choose your generator

  • Power: add up the appliances to supply, allowing for the current surge when motors start.
  • Single-phase or three-phase, depending on your equipment.

What power should I choose for a generator?

Add up the power of the appliances used at the same time, then allow a margin for motors (pumps, compressors) that draw more at start-up. Exact values are given on the product page.

What is an automatic start panel or source changeover switch for?

It detects the mains failure, starts the generator and switches the supply without intervention, then returns to the mains when power is back. It must be chosen and wired consistently with the generator, by a professional.

What precautions should I take when using a generator?

Install it outdoors or in a very well ventilated room, never in an enclosed space: exhaust gases are dangerous. Refuel only when it is stopped and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
