Hoses to connect a pump to its intake and discharge point

These hoses connect pumps and engine-driven pumps to the water source and to the discharge. PVC hoses with a steel spiral stay rigid on the suction side; rubber hoses stand up to tougher worksite conditions. They come with crimped couplings or cut to length, depending on the item.

Selection criteria

  • Diameter at least equal to the pump port.
  • Use: suction, delivery or both, as stated on the product page.
  • Working pressure compatible with the pump.
  • Couplings (for example Guillemin) matching your equipment.

Frequently asked questions: Suction and delivery hoses

Why must a suction hose have a spiral?

On suction, the pump creates a vacuum that tends to collapse the hose. The rigid spiral prevents this. A hose without reinforcement is better suited to delivery.

What diameter should I choose to limit pressure losses?

Take at least the diameter of the pump port and, for long distances, a larger one. A hose that is too narrow or too long reduces the flow.

How do I stop the pump from losing its prime?

Check that the couplings are airtight on the suction side, as a small air leak is enough. Keep the hose as short and straight as possible, with no kinks, and a submerged strainer.
