A pump that grinds before discharging

A grinder pump is fitted with knives, a grinder head or a cutter impeller that reduce solids to small fragments. This lets you discharge wastewater through a small-diameter pipe, even over long distances or uphill.

Frequently asked questions: Grinder pumps

Can a grinder pump handle any kind of waste?

No. It is designed for common organic matter found in wastewater. Hard or fibrous objects (textiles, plastics) can jam it: follow the list given by the manufacturer.

Why choose a grinder pump rather than a vortex pump?

When the discharge line is long, small in diameter or under pressure, grinding prevents pipe blockage. A vortex pump remains simpler for short lifts.

How do I maintain it?

Have the condition of the knives and the absence of blockage checked regularly, as well as the float's operation. Switch off the power supply before any work.
