Pressure switch

Pressure switch : that makes an electrical contact when a certain level of pressure has been achieved on its input. This is used to provide on/off switching from an hydraulic source.

A pressure switch to control the pump by pressure

A pressure switch starts and stops the pump according to network pressure: it switches on below a low threshold and cuts out at the high threshold. It equips surface pump sets with a bladder tank, booster sets, and domestic water or irrigation systems.

Setting and selection

Choose a pressure range compatible with your installation, an electrical rating suited to the pump and, if needed, a model with a gauge or an inverted version for dry-run protection. Set the pressures according to the manual.

Frequently asked questions: Pressure switches

How does a pressure switch work?

A pressure-sensitive diaphragm operates an electrical contact. When pressure drops, the contact closes and the pump starts; when it rises to the high threshold, the contact opens. Thresholds are adjusted with screws.

What is the inverted version for?

It is used to protect the pump against a lack of water upstream, for example on a supply from the mains. The principle and wiring are explained on the product page.

Why does my pump start too often?

First check the tank pre-charge pressure, then the switch thresholds and the tightness of the circuit. A gap between the thresholds that is too small also causes frequent starts.
