The right cable to power a pump

The cable connects the pump to its control panel or to its power source. It is chosen according to its cross-section, its length, its environment and, for a submersible pump, its resistance to immersion. This category offers flexible cables sold by the metre, a submersible cable and battery cables.

Selection criteria

  • Cross-section: it depends on the current and the length, in order to limit voltage drop.
  • Use: outdoors, permanent immersion or battery connection.
  • Number of conductors depending on single-phase or three-phase.

How do I choose the cable cross-section?

It depends on the pump current, the cable length and the installation method. The longer the cable, the larger the cross-section needed. If in doubt, ask an electrician.

Can any cable be immersed?

No. For permanent immersion, use a cable designed for it, such as a submersible cable. A standard flexible cable is not always suitable; see the product page.

Are cables sold by the metre?

Flexible and submersible cables are sold cut to length: state the length needed when ordering, and allow some margin for the routing.
