A suction kit to fit out a pump without forgetting anything

A suction kit brings together the hose, the couplings and often the strainer or foot valve needed to connect a pump or engine-driven pump to its water source. Kits range from DN25 to DN150, in stainless steel for drinking water, for diesel, or with floating suction.

How to choose your kit

  • Diameter suited to the pump's suction port.
  • Fluid: water, drinking water, diesel... the kit must be intended for it.
  • Length and depth of the source to reach.
  • Suction type: bottom, or floating to draw from the surface.

Frequently asked questions: Suction kits

What is the strainer of a suction kit for?

It filters coarse debris to protect the pump, and the foot valve keeps water in the hose to ease priming. It must stay submerged, without touching a muddy bottom.

When should I choose floating suction?

When you want to pump from the surface, where water is clearest, for example in a tank or pond. The float keeps the strainer at a shallow depth.

How do I make sure the pump primes?

Fill the pump if its manual requires it, check that all couplings are airtight and limit the suction height: a small air leak is enough to prevent priming.
