A drive to match pump speed to demand

A variable speed drive changes the supply frequency of the motor and therefore its rotation speed. Paired with a pump, it keeps pressure constant, limits abrupt starts and adjusts the flow to real demand. It is used on surface pumps, boreholes and booster sets.

What to check before buying

  • Input and output voltage: some models turn a single-phase supply into a three-phase output.
  • Power or current of the motor to control, compared with the drive's capacity.
  • Mounting type: wall-mounted drive, integrated drive or kit with a pressure sensor.

Frequently asked questions: Variable speed drives

Can a drive run a three-phase motor from a single-phase supply?

Some models accept a 230 V single-phase input and deliver a three-phase output. Check the product page for the output voltage, the maximum power and the compatibility with the motor wiring.

Which drive should I choose for a borehole pump?

Choose a drive whose power and current match the motor plate. Borehole kits usually include the pressure sensor; the manual explains how to set the target pressure.

Does the drive need protection?

Yes: give it a dry, ventilated location and suitable electrical protection upstream. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for wiring, motor cable length and parameter settings.
