Open impeller pump for loaded liquids

An open impeller lets suspended particles through without clogging as easily as a closed impeller. The pumps in this category are self-priming and designed for clean water, slightly loaded water, loaded liquids or seawater.

Which model for which liquid?

  • Clean or slightly loaded water: type A or small ORA models.
  • Loaded liquids: larger ORA models, chosen according to particle size.
  • Seawater: special A-EDM models.

Frequently asked questions: Open impeller pumps

Why choose an open impeller?

It tolerates impurities (sand, fine debris) better than a closed impeller, at the cost of often lower efficiency. Check the permitted particle size on the product page.

Are these pumps self-priming?

Yes, they draw by themselves after a first filling of the pump body. Respect the maximum suction lift stated on the product page.

Can very thick or heavily loaded liquids be pumped?

Not necessarily. Viscosity and the nature of the solids limit use. Check the pump's limits on the product page and ask for advice if in doubt.
