A booster pump raises and steadies the water pressure from the mains, a tank, a well or a rainwater reserve. It supplies a house, a garden watering system, a building or a process with an even pressure at every outlet.
To size it step by step, see our guide Choosing a booster set.
A fixed-speed booster starts at full speed under the control of a pressure switch: simple and cheaper to buy. A variable-speed booster adjusts the motor speed to the demand: steady pressure, fewer starts and less noise, better control of electricity use.
Add up the flow of the outlets used at the same time, then set the pressure you want in bar (1 bar is about 10 metres of water head). Also check the suction conditions: beyond a few metres between the water and the pump, choose a submersible pump.
A diaphragm tank (expansion vessel) absorbs pressure changes and limits the number of pump starts. It is usually paired with fixed-speed boosters. See our Pressure tank category to pick the right capacity.
Several pumps give continuity of service: if one stops, the other takes over. They also share the load and alternate to spread the wear. This solution suits apartment buildings, public bodies and sites where water must never run out.
A booster set pressurises and regulates the water when the mains, a tank or a well does not provide enough. First work out the pressure you need at the least favourable tap (see determining water pressure). For a supply from the public mains, check your water supplier’s connection rules.
A bladder tank is pre-charged when empty, with no water and no pressure in the circuit: the pre-charge pressure should be about 0.2 bar below the pump start pressure. The detail is in the guide choosing a bladder pressure tank.
Our team helps you choose the right equipment for your installation: call +33 3 44 25 91 01 Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm (French time), or email contact@pompes-h2o.com. Public bodies can pay by administrative order (mandat administratif), with invoicing through Chorus Pro.
